Speaking in an interview with IQNA, he said Diyanet is an organization affiliated to the Turkish government that is tasked with organizing and managing religious affairs in the country.
They include supervising the activities of mosques and religious centers, training religious scholars and imams of mosques, and issuing certificates for memorizers of the Quran and Hadiths, he said.
Among the organization’s major activities is publication of religious books, which is done in the organization’s specialized printing houses, he noted.
He added that Diyanet also runs 40 major book stores which distribute the religious books published in Turkish.
Printing and distributing copies of the Quran as well as translation of the Holy Book is among the activities of Diyanet, he said.
The organization also runs charity activities such as publishing and donating the Quran and its translation in different languages to those needing them in other countries, the official noted.
He said most of these Qurans are distributed among Muslims in African countries.
So far, it has donated some five million copies of the Holy Book and its translations to Muslim sin Africa, he stated.
Diyanet aims to translate the Quran into 70 languages and so far the Holy Book’s renderings into 27 languages have been completed, according to the official.
Elsewhere in the interview, when asked about the book fair in Tehran, he hailed the good reception of the exhibition by the Iranian people from all ages.
The 34th edition of the Tehran International Book Fair was held at the Imam Khomeini (RA) Mosalla (Congregational Prayers Site) from May 10 to 20.
About 3,000 Iranian and foreign publishers took part in the book fair.
